Wine & Spirit Education Trust

Fraudulent Profesional Certification Since 1994

The WSET has been defrauding Americans since 1994

"Internationally Recognized Professional Certification?"

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) is based on one idea: they offer professional certification for the wine industry. They sell a two-year diploma program that costs thousands of dollars to complete. They claim that their classes are for the "wine trade and sommeliers, for accreditation by London's WSET".

Those claims are false. Their programs are not accredited or recognized in the United States. The WSET cannot offer professional certifications. They cannot train sommeliers. They cannot train offer training for any wine trade or restaurant job. For them to claim otherwise is false and illegal.

For a certifciation to be more than just a piece of paper, the school offering the diploma must be approved by a state's department of education. This is true for all professional training, from travel agent to CPA to helicopter pilot. Any school claiming to offer professional training or certification without that approval is defrauding the public and violating the law.

Go to School, Go to Jail?

None of the WSET programs or its affiliated schools across the country have been properly licensed in any state to offer professional training. The WSET programs are now illegal in 49 states, and soon will be illegal in all 50. This means you cannot legally use a WSET certification to gain employment in the food or wine industry. Even more alarming, you can be prosecuted for attempting to use WSET certificate to gain employment or a raise, in at least 9 states. Moreover, you can be sued for fraud if you attempt to use your WSET accreditation to gain employment.
